Thighpaulsandra ha sido un colaborador habitual de Julian Cope, Coil y Spiritualized y éste es su cuarto trabajo en solitario

Estamos repasando las últimas novedades editadas por Ochre Records desde el Reino Unido. Después de lo nuevo de Thighpaulsandra, continuamos con dos de los clásicos en su catálogo, el galés Stylus, que editaba en 1999 su debut en Ochre y Experimental Audio Research, o lo que es lo mismo, Sonic Boom, un artista envuelto en proyectos tan interesantes en su momento como Spacemen 3 y Spectrum, que se desmarca de las malas críticas obtenidas en los últimos tiempos con un sólo corte de más de 40 minutos de duración

Dos artistas que acaban de publicar en Ochre su debut aunque llevan trabajando juntos desde 1996. Grace & Delete son el clarinetista Chris Cundy y el músico electrónico James Dunn, que utiliza el arte del circuit-bending, provocar cortocircuitos en pequeños aparatos para que produzcan todo tipo de sonidos marcianos

Hacemos un alto en Bip-Hop, un sello que anuncia su regreso después de varios meses de inactividad, anuncio que viene acompañado de un nuevo volúmen de su serie más exitosa: Bip-Hop Generation 7, que incluye hasta 80 minutos de trabajos exclusivos de un elenco de artistas procedentes de varios rincones del mundo: Janek Schaeffer desde el Reino Unido, Ghislain Poirier desde Canadá, el colectivo chino FM3, Fonica desde Japón, el argentino Leonardo Ramella, Emisor, y el neoyorkino Taylor Deupree, fundador del sello 12k, centrado en el minimalismo digital

Continuamos escuchando la música de Taylor Deupree, ahora en colaboración con Christopher Willits. Se trata de un disco editado por el sello japonés Plop que satisface ahora sí a ambos artistas tras una primera pero breve colaboración publicada por Audiosphere a principios de este año. En este trabajo, Mujo, que significa "cambio constante" en japonés, Deupree ambienta hábilmente el contexto con sus características texturas mientras Willits se emplea a fondo en el procesado de los sonidos de su guitarra

Hoy nos despedimos con el proyecto conjunto de Carsten Nicolai, director del sello Raster-Noton y músico minimalista de influencia industrial, y Thomas Knak, que también dirige su propio sello y también es músico, aunque de vertiente más suave, no en vano fue el productor del Vespertine de Bjork. El intercambio de archivos sonoros entre Berlin y Copenhage les llevó a editar Opto Files en el sello Raster y ahora retornan, esta vez con un disco, 2nd, en el sello de Knak, Hobby Industries

In this work, Mojo, a word that means "constant change" in Japanese, Deupree skillfully sets the context with its characteristic textures while Willits thoroughly works on the processing of the sounds from his guitar

Luigi Archetti is a composer, musical explorer and guitarrist; was born in Brescia (Italy) and resides in Switzerland. After taking part in many improvisation, noise and computer music projects, Archetti seems now more concentrated in his composition facet.

Interesante colaboración repleta de contrastes, un disco que se ha construido a caballo entre París y Maryland, lugares de procedencia de dos respectivos dúos, los franceses Ultra Milkmaids y los norteamericanos V. Los primeros utilizan la última tecnología digital para procesar muestras de guitarra que transforman en densos paisajes electrónicos, mientras V. vienen tradicionalmente empleando todo tipo de instrumentación acústica –de objetos encontrados a instrumentos rotos- con los que crean ruidos de percusión. La colaboración entre estos dos grupos ve la luz gracias a la compañía Zeromoon, sello de Jeff Surak, uno de los componentes de V.

A sus 70 años, el holandés Paul Panhuysen es un reputado artista en el campo de las instalaciones de sonido, complementando sus trabajos con arte visual desarrollado por él mismo, aunque también es conocido como miembro del Macunias Ensemble. La composición que vamos a escuchar, editada por el también holandés sello Plinity Plonk, mereció la mención honorífica del Ars Electronica 2004. Con el nombre A Magic Square Of 5 To Listen To, la obra parte del cuadrado mágico: series numéricas encuadradas de manera que la suma de las filas, columnas y diagonales del cuadro produce siempre la misma suma. Esta obra se estrenó en el Puddles Festival de Tokyo en septiembre del año pasado dentro de una estancia de 5 x 5 metros a través de un sistema de sonido cuadrafónico, aunque el resultado en dos canales es igual de interesante

In his 70s, Paul Panhuysen is a reputed Dutch artist in the field of sound installations, often complemented with visual work developed together with the audio. Panhuysen, though, is also known as a member of the Maciunas Ensemble. This composition received an honorary mention at Prix Ars Electronica 2004. A Magic Square of 5 to Listen to is inspired by the Magic Square: numeric series arranged in a square grid so that the resulting sum of each horizontal, vertical and diagonal row is always the same. First performed in Tokyo’s Puddles Festival last year in a 5x5m area, the work was conceived for a quadraphonic audio system; the result in two channels, though, is equally interesting
